Founded on the legacy of Rick Hansen’s groundbreaking Man In Motion World Tour, the Rick Hansen Foundation has been advancing accessibility and inclusion since 1988. In 1985, Hansen embarked on a remarkable 26-month, 40,000-kilometre wheelchair journey through 34 countries, inspiring millions while raising awareness of the abilities of people with disabilities and the need to remove barriers.
Today, the Foundation continues that mission by creating a more accessible and inclusive world. Through education, advocacy, accessibility programs, and support for spinal cord injury research and care, it works to eliminate the physical, attitudinal, and systemic barriers that prevent full participation in everyday life.
More than 1.3 billion people worldwide—including approximately one in four Canadians—identify as having a disability, a number that continues to grow as our population ages. Reflecting its commitment to accessible transportation, the Rick Hansen Foundation utilizes two Wright Lifts to safely assist passengers with disabilities and mobility challenges when boarding and disembarking aircraft, further advancing its mission of creating barrier-free travel experiences.
